While Ozempic is generally safe, some users may experience side effects. These can include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, insomnia, headaches, and dizziness. These side effects typically subside within a few weeks as the body adjusts to the medication. It is important to discuss any concerns with a healthcare provider to ensure that Ozempic is the right choice for your health needs.

Ozempic (semaglutide) is a medication that mimics the action of the hormone GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). GLP-1 is naturally produced in the intestines and plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels. It stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas in response to food intake, helping lower blood glucose levels. Additionally, GLP-1 slows gastric emptying, which prolongs the feeling of fullness after eating, leading to reduced calorie intake. Additionally, it acts on the brain's appetite centers to decrease hunger and food cravings. These effects collectively contribute to significant weight loss in individuals using Ozempic as part of their treatment regimen.

It can take up to 8 weeks to start seeing weight loss results with Ozempic, as this is the time needed to reach an effective appetite-suppressing dose. However, individual results may vary and are influenced by factors such as diet, sleep patterns, stress levels, and exercise habits.

Making lifestyle changes can help maximize the benefits of Ozempic. Focus on consuming a healthy, balanced diet, exercising regularly, staying hydrated, getting adequate sleep, and reducing overall stress levels. These adjustments can enhance your results and support overall well-being while on Ozempic.

We’re here to clear the air

The virtual weight loss program at Science & Humans begins with an initial health assessment that you complete online. Based on your responses, you'll receive a blood work requisition to analyze various health markers. Once the blood work results are in, you'll have a virtual consultation with a clinician to discuss the results and create a personalized treatment plan. If you qualify, you'll receive your prescribed medications shipped directly to your door. The program includes quarterly follow-ups to monitor your progress and adjust the treatment as needed.

Blood work is essential to provide a comprehensive understanding of your health status and to identify any underlying conditions that may affect your treatment plan. It helps clinicians tailor the weight loss program specifically to your needs, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.

The blood work includes tests for various markers such as glucose levels, lipid profile, liver function, kidney function, thyroid function and other relevant parameters to assess your overall health and suitability for weight loss medications.

The blood work requisition is sent within 24 hours of signing up for the program.

Additional blood work may be requested by the prescriber in rare cases. Generally, it is not necessary for follow up care. However, if you feel as though you need follow up blood work, please reach out to support@scienceandhumans.com and we will help determine if it is necessary. Please note, additional costs may apply.

The costs associated with the weight loss program include the initial sign up fee of $50, followed by $100 for the first time video consultation following completion of blood work. The subscription fee for the follow-up consultations is $100. This will be charged quarterly.

As Science & Humans is a subscription based platform, this ensures we follow up with you exactly when necessary. When you are coming due for a refill on medication, we will send out a detailed questionnaire to be answered regarding side effects, results and overall well being. Once this is completed, your prescribed will review and issue another prescription. Should there be any problems, the practitioner may ask to speak to you.

Medications offered include GLP-1 agonists, such as Ozempic and Saxenda, which are known for their effectiveness in promoting weight loss. These medications help regulate appetite and improve glucose metabolism. Alternatively, if injections are not preferred, a prescription for contrave is also available.

Due to the popularity of weight loss medications in Canada, it is common for some medications to go on backorder. In this case, Science & Humans is able to provide compounded versions of commercially available medications so you never have to pause your treatment.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a hormone naturally produced in the intestines that plays a key role in regulating blood sugar levels and appetite. GLP-1s slow down gastric emptying, increase feelings of fullness, and reduce food intake, contributing to weight loss.

GIP (Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide) and GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) are both incretin hormones that help regulate insulin secretion. However, GLP-1 is more commonly used in weight loss treatments because it has a more significant impact on reducing appetite and improving glucose control. Medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Saxenda are GLP-1 agonists. Medications such as Mounjaro and Zepbound are a combination of GIP and GLP-1. The choice of medication will be determined during a conversation with the prescriber.

Common side effects of weight loss medications like GLP-1 agonists include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation brain fog and fatigue. These side effects often diminish over time as your body adjusts to the medication. These symptoms are most common when the dose is titrated up.

The amount of weight loss varies depending on individual factors such as starting weight, adherence to the treatment plan, and lifestyle changes. On average, patients can expect to lose a significant amount of weight over the course of the program, but specific results should be discussed with your clinician. Studies have shown that many individuals lost up to 15% of their weight within 12 months.

If you hit a weight loss plateau, your clinician will review your progress and may adjust your treatment plan. This could involve changing the dosage of your medication, incorporating additional lifestyle modifications, or exploring other treatment options.

A CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) is a device that tracks your glucose levels throughout the day and night, providing real-time data on how your blood sugar levels respond to food, exercise, and medication. Science & Humans may prescribe a CGM to help you and your clinician monitor and optimize your glucose control as part of your weight loss program.

Science & Humans stands out by offering personalized, telemedicine-based healthcare solutions tailored to individual needs. The comprehensive approach includes thorough health assessments, detailed blood work, personalized treatment plans, and ongoing support through virtual consultations.

Coverage depends on insurance plans and we cannot guarantee whether our services will or will not be covered. A detailed invoice can be requested for video consultations and submitted to insurance for reimbursement. Having a Healthcare Spending Account (HSA) may provide coverage. Medication costs can be billed directly to insurance.

The subscription includes a three-month supply of prescribed medications, access to a specialist clinician, quarterly follow-up consultations, and initial blood work. This comprehensive package ensures continuous monitoring and adjustment of your treatment plan as needed.

Payment for Science & Humans programs is subscription based. This allows us to follow up with you on a quarterly basis to ensure there are no interruptions to your treatment plan. Payment will be deducted every 85 days following the last charge.
